As early as 2025, a group of Integrated Oil Companies (IOC) will start oil production in the Lake Albert region of Uganda.

When this occurs, roughly 1million tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) in GHGs will be released into the atmosphere YEARLY for the next 30 years. However, the GHG emissions don’t just start with oil production – they start with project construction, which has already begun and will continue to ramp up in 2021, with an estimated 150,000 tCO2e of GHG emissions in 2022 until production startup in 2025.
