Good veggies? Good for whom?

Want to discuss a couple problematical foods? Avocados are one of the top veggie delinquents which form the diet of many from all walks of life. However avocados require 2,000 litres (440 gallons) of water to produce one kilogram (2.2 lbs).

Another is almond milk which is used in all those chique coffees and cereals as a plant based cow milk substitute. Apparently it takes about 68 litres (15 gallons) of water to produce just 16 almonds. From a recipe for almond milk I found, it takes about 100 almonds to produce 4 servings of almond milk. That’s about 270 litres (60 gallons) of water.

According to one top source, 80 percent of the world’s crop grows in California which we all know is drought-prone. This means crucial water is tapped from the water table for almond irrigation.

Is it time to tax these types of environmentally destructive foods?
